Kusadasi is a surprisingly quaint and very relaxed port town with
its own beeches and markets.
From Kusadasi we took a private tour with a small group of eight. Our first stop was at the site said to have
been the home to the Virgin Mary in her later years. It was here I think Joan ‘saw the light’ for
the second time in a week.
From there we went on to Ephesus, which is said to be one of the best-preserved
towns from the early Roman era. We
weren’t disappointed! Our tour guide Gonca
(but pronounced very differently), spoke very good English and was very
knowledgeable about the area and its history.
Like the Terracotta Warriors in Zian, excavation and restoration is
on-going and will be for the next hundred years or more. We were warned about the uneven paving so
Joan took extra care and came through with flying colours.
We were treated to a traditional Turkish lunch and David ate
everything he was given!!!
Back at the ship now and preparing to set sail for Athens, on what
should have been our first visit.

That amphitheatre is vast, isn't. although I have seen it, it was seing your photo that made me realise the size.J x
