At Rhodes we docked right outside the Old Town, which is surrounded
by a fortified wall. We took the
opportunity to have a relaxing day just strolling the old streets and taking in
the magnificent sights.
The town itself dates back to about 1400 when it was inhabited by
the Knights of St. John (The Knights Templar).
With its myriad of narrow winding alleyways it would be very easy to get
lost so we tended to stick to the main areas which, unfortunately were filled
with thousands of tourists (ironic isn’t it?).
We made our way to the Royal Palace and spent an hour or so just
wandering around the building amazed at the architecture and the Roman mosaics
that remained intact.
Later we found ourselves a (the now customary) nice café offering
plenty of shade and a cool breeze and had a light lunch and a cold drink before
heading back to the ship.
Another relaxing day in a wonderful location.
