I now understand why Dubrovnik is called the Jewel of the
Mediterranean; the old town is just beautiful.
We were off the ship early so that we could walk the city wall
before it got too hot, but we only managed to do half as by 10am the sun was
just too hot, and with all of the uneven stairs it just got too much, but half
is better than nothing. We entered at
the Pile gate and exited at the Ploce gate actually more than half; the views
from the wall were just spectacular.
Once down off the wall we made our way to the Stradum (main street),
the streets were paved with white marble which shone like glass in the
sunshine, I hate to imagine how slippery it would be if it rained. The street was lined with interesting buskers of all types, one we just couldn't work out, despite viewing from all angles!
We
browsed the many shops for an hour or two and eventually found a café and had
some lunch before returning to the ship.
We can now spend a day at sea recovering before Venice.
