After hearing so much about Barcelona
over the last couple of decades we were keen to see what it was all about and
we weren’t disappointed.
Despite the size of the city it is clean
and the air is fresh, obviously due in large to the many tree lined streets
that they have.
We were interested in visiting the Gaudi church
that has been under construction since 1882 and is not due for completion until
2026. The architecture of Gaudi is
“interesting” to say the least and I have no doubt he would have been
considered a mad man in his time.
However his work has stood the test of time and the fact that a major
project is continuing today with his design is testament to him.
From the outside the La Sarga Familia
seems Gordy (rather than Gaudi), partly because over the years a number of
construction methods have been employed making it all look a little disjointed
~ but we should remember its not yet finished.
Then you walk inside and WOW! is all I could say. The scale of the interior is awesome.
We then headed to Les Ramblas, a pedestrian area lined with touristy type stalls and cafés. We had it on good authority from a fellow traveller that a particular restaurant served the best Paella, needles to say we had to find out if this was the case and wash it down with a fresh cleansing local ale. Again we weren’t disappointed.
